The 24th anniversary of the killing of Yasmin by some policemen after gang-rape would be observed today.
The killing on this day in 1995 pivoted an uprising of people from all strata in Dinajpur against the brutality and police had opened fire on the demonstrators killing seven of the protesters.
Since then the day had been observed as Women Repression Prevention Day.
Two police personnel — assistant sub-inspector Mainul Islam, constable Abdus Sattar — and pickup van driver Amrit Lal had been executed on August 31, 2007 in a case filed with Kotwali Police Station against killing Yasmin.
To mark the day, different women and socio-cultural organisations chalked out programmes to observe the day.
The programmes include placing wreaths at the grave of Yasmin, holding discussions, day-long doa mahfil and special prayer.
Samajtantrik Mahila Forum will hold a protest rally in front of National Press Club around 11:00am demanding to stop repressing women. Nari Mukti Kendra will hold another protest rally in front of National Press Club around 4:30pm.
Nari Samhati held a protest rally in front of National Museum around 4:00pm on Friday.
